Cefalu
This Norman cathedral in Cefalu was built in gratitude by Norman king Roger II for the safe haven he found after a storm at sea. It was built in the 12th century and contains some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in Sicily.
Did you know that the twin towers are not the same height? One is taller to give the cathedral a sense of balance when viewed against the mountainous background. |
As we were wandering around Cefula, we noticed this grape vine growing from the wall. We were told the vine gets its moisture from a spring under the building. The spring was the local laundry until recently.
There were also small trucks stopping around town hawking their produce. We're looking forward to tomorrow as we head for Taormina. |
